| Does my computer have to be on to use sharing? | No, you can share your files with other Family Members or Business Colleagues without needing to keep your computer switched on. You do need to make sure that your computer is on long enough for the Desktop Application to synchronise your current work to your private Vault, but this is usually very fast. |
| What versions of Windows do you support? | The iNeedMyStuff Desktop Application works on Windows XP (Home and Pro), Windows 2003 Server and Windows Vista. |
| Do I have to be logged in to my computer for it to work? | No, iNeedMyStuff runs as a background service. This allows it to work as long as your computer is switched on. You do not need to be logged in. |
| What do you protect? | iNeedMyStuff protects your normal workimg documents. It will look for files that have changed in your My Documents folder and synchronize these changes to your private Vault. For your protection, it does not synchronize executable code or over-large files, but there are features to allow this if you feel you need it. |
| Do you backup my Windows System for me? | iNeedMyStuff does NOT do a Windows System Backup, it protects your normal working documents. iNeedMyStuff does help manage your system backup files for you and provides an online copy of these backups. We recommend you use a product like Acronis TrueImage Home to do this. We have a feature to store your system-backup files for you, so you are still safe even if you lose your computer. |
| Can I use it with all the users on my computer? | Yes, iNeedMyStuff supports multiple users on the same computer and works when switching between users. |
| Does iNeedMyStuff work on a Macintosh computer? | Sorry, no we do not support Macintosh. We know it is a great computer, but we have no immediate plans to support the Mac |
| Do I need to install an application on my computer? | iNeedMyStuff works by detecting changes on your local disk and then silently and securely synchronizing these changes to your private Vault. It requires the Desktop Application to be installed on any computer where you want automatic synchronization or sharing. You can still see your current Vault using a web browser from any internet connected computer. |
| How does this effect my useage limit on my BroadBand? | You may have a restriction on how much data you can use on your broadband. You need to check your limits. If you have a large amount of data in your My Documents, My Pictures etc then you may exceed this limit when you first start using iNeedMyStuff. Once your Vault is up to date, then iNeedMyStuff will only use up bandwidth for changes, so this should not effect you. If you have a large number of files that change frequently, you may need to increase your usage limit with your broadband provider. |
| What about viruses? | The basic use of iNeedMyStuff does not increase the chances of you becoming infected. You should always ensure you have a good anti-virus program installed and kept up to date. If you use Shared Stuff for sharing files with other peoples desktops, then you should ensure that they have up to date anti-virus. iNeedMyStuff sychronizes files types that are not executables, programs or installers. This is to help stop the automatic spread of viruses, although you can share these types of files by putting them into a zip file or compressed folder. You should always ensure you have checked any zip or compressed files with your virus checker before you open them. |
| How can I increase the size of my Vault? | To increase the number of users, desktops, files or storage, simply login to your account at console.ineedmystuff.biz and click on invoices and payments. |
